It was owned by actor Anthony Daniels who played the character and had a pre-sale estimate of between £500,000 to £1 million. The had is part of a collection. Of Star Wars movie memorabilia collected by Daniels over the years. The hammer price was £550,000 with 25 percent buyer's premium then added. The British star is the only actor to appear in all nine Star Wars films as well as two spine-offs, Solo and Rogue One. Daniels, 77, said before the sale: "I hope this can bring pleasure to Star Wars fans and collectors all around the world and give them a chance to own a piece of the real thing.” Other items from his personal collection included A pair of C-3PO feet from sequels The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi which went for a total of £43,750 GBP including premium. Daniels wore metallic gold-coloured feet as part of his distinctive C-3PO costume. The feet are made of rubber covered in metallic gold-coloured vinyl, and feature a back split at the heel, allowing the foot and shoe to slide in, with metal snap fastener closures to keep the foot secure. A pair of C-3PO hands from the same two movies went for £108,750 GBP in total.
