The US-designed Samson Sky Switchblade converts from a road vehicle to a 320-km/h aircraft at the touch of a button. The two-seater reached an altitude of 150 metres during a six minutes flight around Grant Country International Airport in Washington state. It came a year after it was pronounced airworthy by US air authority the FAA and 14 years since work started on it. Samson says it has already taken 2,300 reservations from 57 different countries, at an estimated starting price of $170,000 USD. The Switchblade can hit 200 km/h on the road with wings and tail folded. In flight mode the top speed is 322 km/h with a maximum altitude of 400 m. It has a petrol-powered hybrid power system promising a range of 805 km from a full 125L fuel tank.
