A ballerina-inspired evening dress worn for two formal occasions by Princess Diana has sold for more than $1.1 million USD , a world record for a gown owned by the late British royal. The garment, designed by Moroccan-British fashion designer Jacques Azagury went at auction for $1,143,000 USD / €1.074.000 Euros with 19 bids from across the globe. It was sold by US auction house Julien's Auctions. A spokesperson said it was a new world record for most expensive dress worn by Diana, the Princess of Wales, sold at auction. Diana wore it for at least two formal public appearances. She first wore it to a dinner held by the mayor of Florence when she was on an official royal tour of Italy with then Prince Charles in April of 1985. Diana wore it again for a performance by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, Canada in May of 1986. Princess Diana and Prince Charles were on a royal visit to Vancouver to formally open the Expo '86 World's Fair. December 19th, 2023.
