Après 8 ans de travail, sa Tour Eiffel en allumettes invalidée par le Guinness Book des records le 6 février 2024. C'était une idée très originale : monter une Tour Eiffel en allumettes ! Richard Plaud, installé en Charente-Maritime, vient de passer huit ans à construire ce projet de toutes pièces. Cela représente 4.200 heures cumulées pour la construction, 706.000 allumettes utilisées pour atteindre une taille finale de 7,19m, validée par un géomètre-expert. Après avoir été exposée pour la première fois début janvier, la demande de record a été envoyée au Guinness Book. Il y a quelques jours, la décision tombe : les juges britanniques ont invalidé le record et même disqualifié le Poitevin. La raison : "On me reproche d'avoir utilisé des allumettes sans tête rouge. Moi, je les ai achetées directement à l'usine, elles sont donc brutes mais c'est exactement les mêmes", explique Richard Plaud sur RTL. La tige en bois est exactement la même, les caractéristiques identiques, sans compter qu'il faut de toute manière retirer le bout rouge pour la construction de l'édifice. Si cette particularité est bien mentionnée dans le cahier des charges du Guinness Book des records, le maquettiste de Charente-Maritime assure n'avoir reçu ces lignes directrices en dernière minute : "On m'a transmis les informations un mois avant l'assemblage final. Je venais de passer plus de 7 ans et demi sur le projet, c'est impensable de recommencer" se justifie Richard Plaud. After being first exhibited in early January, the record request was sent to the Guinness Book. A few days ago, the decision fell: the British judges invalidated the record and even disqualified the Poitevin. The reason: "I am criticized for using matches without a red head. I bought them directly from the factory, so they are raw but they are exactly the same,” explains Richard Plaud on RTL. The wooden rod is exactly the same, the characteristics identical, not to mention that you have to remove the red end anyway for the construction of the building. If this particularity is indeed mentioned in the specifications of the Guinness Book of Records, the model maker from Charente-Maritime assures that he did not receive these guidelines at the last minute: "I was sent the information a month before the final assembly "I had just spent more than 7 and a half years on the project, it's unthinkable to start again" explains Richard Plaud.
