The Man of Steel from the planet Krypton was introduced to the world in the inaugural edition of Action Comics published by DC in 1938. The copy that sold was officially graded 8.5 out of a possible ten and sold by US saleroom Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas.. The previous comic book record was $5.3 million USD / €4.85 million euros for a version of another Action Comics 1 that was graded slightly lower at 8.0 and sold in 2022 A Heritage spokesperson explained "It's been said many times, but it bears repeating that Action Comics 1 is the most important, impactful comic book ever published. "It features the first appearance and origin of Superman: an alien child sent to Earth to escape catastrophe, who grew to become the world's mightiest defender -- a reflection of his creators' experiences as well as the American Dream.
