This was where the ships set sail on their way out to the world seas and it was here that they paid their Oresund customs, which provided the city and the country with great revenue. Elsinore was the city of ships, sailors and shipbuilders. The painting is a tribute to the last 300 years of development in shipping. The painting represents three ages of Danish shipping - wooden boats with sails, steamships and today´s container ships, from small ships with a large crews and numerous manual tasks, to a fully automated mastodon. Today´s container ships are now so large that they can no longer enter the ports.
