Everyone knew someone who worked at the shipyard and everyone heard the everyday hammering sounds that emerged from the place, following the building of the huge ships that eventually sailed out into the world. The intention of the painting that can be seen opposite the entrance of the yard by the entrance in Allegade is to create a heroic moment in time, combining human beings with the monumental task of building enormous vessels on a far larger scale.
