A military helicopter drone is being developed for US Marines — for "taking the fight to the enemy.” The Airbus MQ-72C is based on the firm's light utility helicopter, a UH-72 Lakota. It will carry key cargo such as standard containers and ordnance at high speed. It is 4 meters tall and 13.5 meters long, with a maximum takeoff weight of 3,800 kilograms. The plan is to have it cruise at 250 km/h, fly at up to 6,100 meters with a range of over 650 km. Airbus is carrying out a series of developments working with multiple partners to expand the aircraft's capabilities. It already has a digital infrastructure that allows for quick integration of third-party commercial hardware, increasing its operational flexibility and adaptability in contested environments.
