Picture MUST credit: Elevate Racing. A flying Formula 1-inspired flying race car has been unveiled. The electric-powered AirKart is a single seater vertical take-off and landing aircraft that is being developed for low-altitude racing and recreational flying. It has been designed by UK-based startup Elevate Racing. The company hopes to start production in 2026 and is allowing potential buyers to book in for race days. The control system uses GPS and LiDAR sensors which use laser signals to measure distances to objects. The flight computer runs safety programs, and there are two main flight modes. An EasyFly Mode is for beginners, where the controls are limited to avoid sudden or unsafe movements. The system can detect and avoid obstacles, and landing can be done by pressing one button. Experienced pilots can activate Sport Mode, where there are no electronic manoeuvres limits giving the pilot full manual control racing or advanced flying.
