Picture MUST credit: KLAB A life-size holographic police officer is being used to help tackle crime in the South Korean capital of Seoul. The officer is designed to increase people's perception of safety and discourage law breaking. The image of a real officer is projected into a 170cm tall human-shaped cut suit board erected in the city's busy Judong No. 3 Park. The animated officer reminds locals that "in emergencies, the police will respond immediately,” and that "there are surveillance cameras everywhere.” The hologram was created by tech company Hologrammica. The life-size policeman model was installed for a trial basis in October last year. Recent data is said to show it has had a significant impact on crime reduction in and around the park. The park comes under the jurisdiction of Jungbu police station. Its chief, Ahn Dong-hyun , said the hologram has become an established smart security device that increases citizens' perceived safety and has a psychological preventative effect against disorderly behaviour.
