Opis:
A traditional nativity scene in St. Andrews Church. The traditional nativity story tells of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem for a Roman census, where no room was available at the inn, so Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger. Shepherds, guided by angels, and later, Wise Men (Magi) following a star, visited the baby, bringing gifts like gold, frankincense, and myrrh, while Joseph was warned in dreams to flee to Egypt to escape King Herod's jealousy. The traditional nativity scene's history begins with St. Francis of Assisi staging the first living nativity in Greccio, Italy, in 1223, using real people and animals to convey the humility of Christ's birth, a practice that spread quickly. It evolved from live enactments to static displays with figures, Credit:Geoffrey Swaine / Avalon
